Flourishing in the Lightest and Darkest of Times

Out There #03

Earth shines with spiritual light, and it’s blemished with spiritual darkness. Love, truth, kindness, and contentment bring us together, while hatred, deception, cruelty, and desire break us apart.

We watch those forces play out in the world, and we feel them working within us, for better or worse.

So, let’s see…

  • what spiritual light and darkness are,
  • where they come from,
  • how we get pulled one way or the other from day to day, and
  • how we can align to the light.

Finally, we’ll see why today is a particularly stressful time, when light and darkness are coming together in volatile ways

Understanding Spiritual Light and Darkness

According to mystics, the “struggle” between light and dark is just a mirage caused by the belief that there is more than one power.

The simple truth is that all is one, and the essence and power of everything is embodied in the spiritual light (or “life-energy”) that is emitted freely and perpetually by the source.

The darkness around the Earth is powerless, created by a false sense of separation perpetrated by the ego.

Diagram: This is a pulled-apart illustration of the superimposed cosmos—the all-that-is—divided into seven arbitrary levels between Earth (level 1) and the source at the center of everything.

Where Light and Darkness Come From

Light from the source. Spiritual light (sometimes called AUM, holy spirit, divine consciousness…)  comes from the source at the center of everything—a brilliant, eternal flame of perfection—perfect consciousness, perfect vitality, perfect life potential…. Everything manifests from the source, which people call God, Allah, Brahman, Yahweh, the principle, the universal life force, and many other names. Spiritual light (love, truth…) comes from the real source.

Down through the ages, humans have also invented a lot of human-like “gods” with dark, human blemishes (hate, deception, cruelty…). Those artificial gods are tainted by emotional debris from Earth’s shadow.

Darkness from the shadow. When perfect light from the source reaches Earth, much of it gets deflected by the stresses and dramas that consume the minds of its inhabitants… casting a spiritual shadow around the world. Dark, earthy thoughts don’t resonate with the bright, finer cosmos, so they get stuck around the planet like an invisible storm cloud… or a staticky ball of invisible lint. The spiritual shadow has blemished the Earth across the millennia.

Note: A glimpse of life in the shadow can be found in this linked article, part of a series.

Aligning to the Light

Finding peace on Earth is simply a matter of committing to the light. That’s done through moral living, which is best defined as…

  • Understanding the dichotomy of Earth (where darkness from the shadow seems to be in a perpetual struggle against light from the source, though it’s really just a mirage),
  • Acknowledging the perfect source at the center of everything,
  • Devising or adapting our lives as best we can around that perfection (especially through meditation or contemplative prayer), and
  • Acting accordingly.

A Crucial Time

In the 1990s, seven cosmic beings told us about the proverbial “end time” scenario that’s apparently in the works once again on this planet:

“Light and darkness shall unite to form a whole again. What people are experiencing now is not the actual beginning of the apocalypse, but only the first symptoms.”

*I believe the symptoms they refer to include environmental breakdown, wars, famine, growing unrest, moral decay, and widespread drug abuse and suffering.

In effect, the tomes of light and the games of darkness that have ebbed and flowed on Earth across the millennia are all being brought to the table now to be reunited, sorted through, and analyzed. The likely findings?…

Brilliance, innovation, and kindness uplift today’s world as never before in history. At the same time…

Hatred, fear, intolerance, and the most destructive weapons in history threaten to tear it all apart on a cataclysmic scale that would impact other worlds in nearby, superimposed universes.

According to various prophecies, people will soon have to choose: If humanity can’t clean up its mess before obliterating itself, cosmic forces will intervene to choreograph a general housecleaning—an apocalyptic end time.*

*From Britannica: Many religions have beliefs about the end times or apocalypse.

  • In Christianity, the end times are described as the Second Coming of Christ, who will preside over the Last Judgment and the end of the world. This is detailed in the New Testament, particularly in the Book of Revelation, which describes a series of apocalyptic events leading to the final judgment and the establishment of a new, eternal world.
  • In Islam, apocalyptic themes are present in the Qur’an and Hadith, including the Day of Judgment, the return of Jesus, and the appearance of the Mahdi, a messianic figure who will restore the faith. The end times are seen as a period of darkness before the final judgment, where the good enter paradise and the evil are condemned to hell.
  • Judaism traditionally holds a belief in a messianic future, with the coming of a Messiah who will bring about a redeemed world. This belief is rooted in the Hebrew Bible and has been a central tenet of Jewish faith, influencing various messianic movements throughout history.
  • Hinduism and Buddhism, while not having a linear view of time like the Abrahamic religions, do have eschatological beliefs. Hinduism describes cycles of creation and destruction, with the current age, Kali Yuga, ending in a great conflagration followed by a new age of righteousness. Buddhism focuses on individual liberation from the cycle of rebirth, with the ultimate goal being nirvana, a state beyond suffering and rebirth.
  • Indigenous and ancient religions also have eschatological beliefs. For example, some South American indigenous groups have myths about the end of the world, often influenced by Christian eschatology, which have been adapted into their own cultural narratives.

In this time of mounting drama, may we choose the light by acknowledging our oneness with the eternal source at the center of our being.
