Note: Phi (short for “philosophy”) is a Greek letter (ϕ or φ), that shows up in the two root words philos (φίλος) and sophia (σοφία). Philos means “love,” and sophia means “wisdom.”
This philosophical look at space and time is really about dimensions and vibrations…
- how dimensions and vibrations define reality throughout the cosmos,
- why we experience them here on Earth as space and time, and
- how our spirit friends experience dimensions and vibrations differently.
Dimensions
The word “space” can stir up lots of images in our mind. It might make us think of the vast reaches of outer space, the living space in our homes, a parking space, a space between words or musical notes, or so many other things.

But science provides the benchmark: space exists in our world as three size dimensions—width, height, and depth… plus a fourth dimension added by Einstein: time. As a simple demonstration…

Mind experiment 1: Imagine taking a couple of ¾-inch ice cubes out of the freezer and placing them on the counter. Each ice cube is 2cm wide, 2cm high, and 2cm deep, so each piece of ice fills 8 cubic centimeters (cc) of “space” (2 x 2 x 2 = 8). The total space of both ice cubes: 16cc. Then imagine watching the ice cubes melt. They take up less and less of the 3 space-size dimensions (width, height, and depth) as they move through the space-time dimension to become a puddle of water.
(Oh, right, and you might want to imagine having some paper towels handy. 🙂 )
So… 4 dimensions (under the weight of forces like gravity) help to define the reality of our day-to-day, structured world.
Note: Here’s a great little “ology” website about how scientists understand time and space and other mysteries of the universe, explained in ways a child can understand. I feel like I get a star on my karmic reward chart when I visit sites like ology to get a better understanding of our material universe…. 🙂 )
How many dimensions are there, really?
String theory scientists are looking for universal principles that apply to everything that goes on beyond our day-to-day world, from the biggest things we can see through optical instruments (stars and galaxies) to the smallest things (subatomic particles). If there are principles that define the behavior of both very big things and very small things, then those principles would give us a unified understanding of our entire universe. Unfortunately, there are so many peculiar things going on up there among the stars and down there among the particles relating to space and time, that it’s simply impossible to find common ground in a 4-dimensional universe. Only when the string-theory physicists allow for 11 dimensions (10 space-size dimensions plus time) can they start to formulate equations and theories that make sense.
So, the general consensus among string theorists is that our physical universe has 11 dimensions. We can perceive 4 of them, while 7 dimensions remain hidden from view. Only then, when we account for at least 11 dimensions, does our nested physical universe (systems within systems within systems…) seem to make sense.
Note: Our spirit friends apparently agree with the string theorists. The “Timestream” community of spirits told our INIT group (in a computer text in 1996): Space-time consists of eleven dimensions, of which only four can directly be perceived by you. The other seven (compact) dimensions exist and are present in a vanishingly small scale in your universe. They are rolled together to the topological equivalent of light tubes whose diameter lies within quantum limits to determine the size of Planck’s length…. When these tubes “unroll” a little or open (during ITC contacts, for example) the constants are momentarily changed. Also, time ceases to exist. This can occasionally be dangerous.
String theorists who study some of the tiniest particles, like bosons and quarks, suggest there might be as many as 26 dimensions… and that’s about as deep as modern science can dig at the moment. But…
Here’s the clincher:
Throughout the cosmos, dimensions are probably infinite in number. It’s only here in the material realm (level 1) that we’re confined to 4 or 11 or maybe 26 dimensions. As long as we accept structure and matter (buildings, galaxies, molecules….) as fundamental aspects of the cosmos, we might not get much deeper into the real multidimensional aspect of things. For that we need to move beyond matter and structure into the realm of waves and vibrations.
Vibrations
Everything in the cosmos is separated from everything else, not by distance and not by time… but by vibration.

A vibrational cosmos is not an easy thing to envision, but mental exercises like this one might help:
Mind exercise 2: Squeeze this diagram of the cosmos all together in your mind until everything’s superimposed. It doesn’t matter if you think of it as infinitely large, or the size of a house or a tennis ball or even a pinpoint. The only condition is that everything is jumbled together in the same space.
Then, to change it from an incoherent mass, realize that everything has a unique vibration, and you suddenly have the super ability to distinguish between all of those vibrations to see each individual entity—whether it’s a person, a spirit, a world, a galaxy, or an entire universe. (Universes are represented by the fine white circles).
That little, mind-blowing exercise provides a glimpse of how light beings and energy beings at the finest levels (levels 6 and 7) apparently see things… a sort of angel’s-eye view of the cosmos.
Then come the hard questions. What’s the true nature of those inconceivably complex life-energy vibrations that forge everything? Can we measure them? How does everything morph from the source (in-beyond of level 7) all the way out-beyond to the fringes of the cosmos, here at level 1? Assuming that each entity in the cosmos has a unique vibration, what qualities of their life-energies allow them to resonate with some entities but not with others?
The Nature of Life-Energy
Note: I suspect the following explanations barely scratch the surface of the truth, but this is what I’ve come to understand (or believe) about the nature of life-energy.
Life-energy begins in the source as a pure, nonvibrating, living light of infinite potential. It contains:
- Vitality—the power to create, sustain, and heal everything.
- Consciousness—inherent knowledge of itself as the totality.
- Refinement—love, bliss, trust, sincerity….
As the life-energy leaves the source it starts to vibrate, starting out as a very fast, fine, perfect set of complex living vibrations (level 7). Then, as it spreads out-beyond (from level 6 to level 1), it evolves into a wide variety of vibrations that vibrate slower and slower and grow more and more dense and imperfect as they create everything in the cosmos. Everywhere the life-energy spreads, and every entity it manifests, it always contains an inner core of perfection (like the qualities above), while each entity develops unique, imperfect, outer layers that strive for:
- Resonance—attraction to other entities of compatible vibration.
- Relationship—an urge to unite and collaborate.
- Morality—duty to understand a power greater than oneself, to acknowledge it, to devise ways to adapt it to one’s surroundings, and to act accordingly.
- Reunion—pervasive, deep-down yearning to be, once again, the perfect totality at the center… to be one with the all-that-is.
Hopefully that’s a reasonable glimpse of life-energy—how I think the cosmos operates, based largely on ITC information that I’ve been digesting for the past quarter-century.
Measuring Life-Energy
Scientists have known how to measure earthly energies like sound, and universal energies like light, for 300 or 400 years. Energy is often carried in waves, which are measured with space-time calculations such as wavelength, frequency, and amplitude.
So far science can’t measure life-energies (a.k.a. cosmic energies or ‘subtle energies’), which flourish beyond space and time, where “waves” become “vibrations.” But I’m fairly sure there are ways to do it. At the end of a spirit phone call I had late last century, the voice of my spirit friend Konstantin Raudive simply “ran out of steam,” as he said, “Swejen told me to recontact you because the energy level is going down at the moment.”
Our spirit friends apparently wanted us to know that they have ways to at least monitor the amount of life-energy that’s being used for important events… like placing that ITC phone call from their spirit world to our physical world.
Here on Earth, I suspect it’s just a matter of time (so to speak) before we start monitoring and measuring life-energies, probably with help and guidance from the spirit worlds. The quality of the help we receive will depend on the purity of human hearts (or the level of refinement of the human spirit). The more we can collaborate in trust, openness, love, and good will, the more enlightened help we’ll receive from beyond. We can only attract spirits we resonate with. That seems to be a sort of cosmic rule of thumb.
Beyond Space and Time
The simple truth, then, according to the greatest mystics of our world (and according to finer beings throughout the cosmos), is that there’s just one ultimate truth in the cosmos—one absolute reality—and that truth is the source (God, Brahman, Allah, the principle, the all-that-is…). Everything else, especially the illusory world of time, space, and structure that we perceive through our five senses, is imperfect.
To get a glimpse of the infinitely complex realities that exist throughout the cosmos between Earth and the source, we can do another mental exercise:
Mind exercise 3:
- Take a few minutes to form a mental picture of our world (the Earth at level 1) in whatever way you perceive it (including what you see on TV and on the Internet)—the people, the animals and plants, the buildings, forests, oceans… and the Earth itself, all here at level 1. Just form a general impression of our world—nothing too elaborate.
- Next, set aside that mental picture of level 1 for a moment as you try to imagine the perfect source of life-energy at the center of everything (beyond level 7). Again, nothing too elaborate.
- Finally, bring back your mental picture of our world and imagine all of those physical things slowly morphing through levels 2 through 7, becoming lighter and purer, eventually becoming formless energy beings and light beings until, finally, they become that perfect source of infinite potential.
So, what are those seven levels really like?
Our spirit friends at Timestream Station gave us INIT members a few hints. They went into a lot of detail about their own level 3 world where, they say, most people from Earth awaken after they die. Here are some of their insights about all of the various levels.
Level 2 is a sort of holding place for people who’ve died, but whose demeanor is a bit too “rough around the edges” to fit in at level 3. A little too angry or resentful or unforgiving, perhaps.
Level 3 of the cosmos includes a world called Eden (or Marduk) that is the legendary paradise or heaven, where most people from Earth awaken after they die, because Earth and Eden share an ancient common heritage. Here are some of the main insights that our spirit friends shared with us about their world:
- Eden has Earth-like communities, forests, parks, and buildings because people from Earth expect those things, but that level 3 world isn’t locked in space and time the way Earth is at level 1. Eden is what we might think of as a “virtual reality” world, with each building or forest or park or mountain existing more as a “hyperlink” location than a geographic or physical location set in time and space. People at level 3 can visit those locations in familiar ways (walking, biking, or driving a hover-craft, for example…) or they can sometimes go there instantly by thought. Despite the virtual nature of their world, everything there seems as solid and real to them as our physical world seems to us.
- People who arrive in Eden after a lifetime generally go through a rejuvenating sleep lasting 6 to 8 weeks, during which eyesight is restored, missing limbs grow back, and so on. Then, their perfect astral body is nearly identical to the physical body of their recent lifetime (including hair color and eye color), but at the prime of life in peak health at age 25 to 35. Those astral bodies are rich with vitality and elasticity, they don’t age or change, and any injuries that happen, such as cuts and broken bones, are painless and heal quickly. There are no diseases.
- Our spirit friends describe diverse communities in their world, including a twilight paradise island inhabited by Polynesians, a snow-land village of Vikings, a crowded Arab marketplace with a lush oasis, a sumptuous East Indian palace where beautifully tanned young women molded in blue and orange silk garments cater to visitors’ needs, a community of exquisite Jewish temples, peaceful Native American communities living the old way, a Christian community in the “Moreysian Mountains” where the people tend to vast herds of cattle and other animals that had suffered on Earth, serving under the guidance of a brilliant being they call “Pescator,” who’d lived as Jesus of Nazareth…. In short, diverse communities from all Earth cultures and eras flourish in beautiful settings that might include silvery rivers flowing through lush meadows between mountain slopes.
- Many “houses of sleep” are close copies of newcomers’ homes on Earth where they can get acclimated to the spirit world in familiar surroundings during a long, rejuvenating slumber (again, usually lasting 6 to 8 weeks of Earth time). When they awaken, newcomers might find a closet in the home filled with attractive, familiar suits and dresses to choose from, and if they want a different garment, it suddenly appears in the closet.
- Climates range from cool-and-comfortable to warm-and-comfortable in order to accommodate people from various Earth latitudes. Adventurers like Richard Francis Burton and “Maupai Hartmann” can use earth-like vehicles (sailing boats and ships powered by “sun-wind,” automobile-like “hovercraft”…) to explore their world while making friends with diverse cultures… and while their adventures may last for days or weeks, their friends “back home” at Timestream experience their absence for only a few minutes.
- Newcomers are taught that only their spirit is real and unchangeable, their physical body was what they call their “fifth body,” suggesting that a person on Earth contains four spirit bodies between the physical body and the soul (which is the source as it rests within each person).
- People whose beliefs and ideas agree with each other are drawn together naturally into resonant groups and communities.
- Some people choose to live in beautiful homes with a back door that opens, not to a small back yard or garden, but to magnificent forests or meadows or parks, depending on their mood. Their homes and lives aren’t confined to a “property” that they own, but are direct gateways to countless wonders of their world.
- Many people in Eden keep mindful of Earth’s timeline in order to celebrate special holidays and events with their loved ones back home.
- Nearly everyone arrives from Earth with false hopes and expectations because of incomplete teachings they’d learned on Earth about the afterlife. The sooner they adapt to the kind, respectful, win-win and live-and-let-live way of life at level 3, the sooner they get settled there. Those who have difficulties adjusting soon find themselves elsewhere, often at level 2, where structures and behaviors are more earth-like—denser and less refined (with some predatory, parasitic, and competitive compulsions). They can go through a purification process if they want to return to level 3.
Level 4 is where a person gets absorbed into indescribable beauty. All earthy passions and uncertainties have been left behind, and there’s no further need to reincarnate for another physical lifetime. Structures are extremely subtle and refined, people can travel among the stars by thought, visiting other worlds and dimensions.
Levels 5, 6, and 7 are inhabited by energy beings and light beings. No more structure, just pure, brilliant consciousness.
So, that’s a glimpse at how time and space on Earth apparently translate to dimensions and vibrations elsewhere in the cosmos.

Appendix
Here are some additional insights from our spirit friends at level 3 that relate to time and space on Earth… and to vibrations and frequencies in their world. Swejen Salter died in 1987, got settled at level 3, became the director of Timestream Spirit Group, and developed a close friendship with her new transpartner—ITC research Maggy Fischbach of Luxembourg.
When Dimensions Cross
Swejen told Maggy (during a 20-minute phone conversation in the summer of 1991) that she often visits other nearby spirit communities in her world, but she doesn’t need a roadmap to get there. She goes there instantly. She said:
When I join African researchers, our dimensions join. I find myself in the environment that these people prefer. It is similar when I meet people of Nordic origin. Remember, there are no space and time separations here. When everybody gets together it will be in an area and under climatic conditions that can do justice to everybody. When we want to meet dwarfs or giants we must go into their dimensions. That does not mean I shall leave my dimension. The dimensions cross each other.
Maggy reflects: “SWEJEN’s explanation reminds me that she often visits places parallel with us which ‘overlap’ with the physical dimension. It is possible for her not only to see a beautiful landscape or to admire a vivid sunset as we do, but also to see the life forms that belong there. These life forms may be higher entities, nature spirits, dwarfs or beautiful, rare animals and plants. In addition, she cannot only perceive the harmonic blending of life forms, colors and flowers visually, but also hears the sounds of wonderful music, and she describes the pleasant aroma of flowers. When we visit a spring that is known for its healing water, SWEJEN in her dimension sees not only the spring but also the entity who gives the water power and strength. Of everything that we see in our world, SWEJEN can see the origin in spirit. Of some of the people we meet here, SWEJEN can see their spiritual origin.”
How Spirits View the Source
Swejen told Maggy during a phone call in 1991:
God, the Principal, the Creator, or whatever else you wish to call him, is everywhere. He is in the universe and the universe is in Him. However, the Universe and therefore God are two entities. (The states of) being and non-being. Matter and nonmatter. Scientists have often tried to explain what matter is and I believe I can spare myself another explanation. Nonmatter is not to be confused with anti-matter, but is really what we describe as soul or spirit. Every living creature, even an amoeba or a bacillus, has a soul….
How Spirits View Finer Beings
Swejen delivered a letter into Maggy’s computer (also in 1991) describing “The Seven” finer beings who facilitate ITC and watch over humanity across the ages:
They live on our plane (level 3) and yet are really not among us. They can ascend to higher planes and again “bend down” to our level. Their power is almost unlimited and so is their wisdom and goodness. Their entire being is illuminated by understanding and forgiveness. It is impossible to describe the good feeling that overcomes the person who faces them and can speak to them. We seek council with these higher beings to determine the information to send to Earth. The meetings take place in a round room with transparent walls. During the talks the room revolves and lights, colors and shapes of breathtaking beauty pass by on the outside. Soft “music of the spheres” is heard in the background.
.
I’m still trying to reconcile in my mind the differences or vibrational distinctions between parallel universes, dimensions, planes, spirit levels, and so on… and I doubt if I’ll get it all sorted out before I die. (After all, as far as I can tell, no one else has ever been able to figure it all out and explain it during an illusory lifetime on Earth.) Hopefully, everything will become clear and self-evident once we get settled in at level 3. MM

This truly is an alternate reality, but you don’t have to buy into it and become such a lemming.
Happy Independence Day!…Be independent!
Hi John,
I watched about half of that cartoon yesterday and thought, that’s silly (and a little scary). It haunted me through the night, though, so this morning I watched it all. The fellow (Steve Cutts) really captures the human dilemma.
From what I gather from our spirit friends, our cosmos as a whole is wonderful and amazing beyond description, and it’s just far-flung worlds like Earth that deal with some real thorny problems (expressed so well in that video).
So… that hypothetical student who created our cosmos as a class project?… I hope he wins the science fair for the rich diversity of life. 🙂 I hope he doesn’t get demoted as an “underachiever” for not cleaning up the little blemishes here at the outer edge.
With the angry political polarization going on lately in western countries, it’s probably more important than ever to appreciate the noble values like independence.

PS – – Thanks, John, for giving me an idea for the next article: Freedom on Earth and in spirit… its implications………
Mark
Mark,
Our basic issue is having freedom in the mind…or, lack thereof.
We are entangled with the thought waves of the mind.
Our addictive thinking is usually obsessive, self-referential, self-absorbed, repetitive, and self-justifying.
Freedom from this comes through spiritual practice, as I know that you know.
As Patanjali wrote in the Yoga Sutras…yoga chitti vritti nirodha.
The purpose of yoga is to still the thought waves of the mind. This brings freedom, and happiness. Such is sadhana.

Thanks, John, for the inspiration for the subject of the next article about freedom!…
