Human Spirituality & Science: Measuring Maya

We have stoplights because we know that two cars can’t occupy the same space at the same time. That two solid objects can’t share space is basic science. Using stoplights is applied science.

If you’ve seen my spirit face photos, it becomes evident that when we explore beyond the material realm, principles of science—e.g. the concept of space—begin to vanish. In those photos, one or two or sometimes three or more spirit faces are partially superimposed over each other and over the face of the human subject. All of these beings share the same “space” in a way that’s impossible here on Earth. Beyond the material world, it’s not just possible, but a basic way of life to share space with other beings. Or, stated more accurately, the concept of “space” does not exist there as it does here on Earth.

And that’s what I want to write about today—the nature of reality and the next stage of science: exploring beyond the material realm.

Science

Newtonian physics has given us unprecedented knowledge of our universe, from the tiny world of cells and molecules within us to the vast realm of stars and galaxies around us.* Thanks to vigorous, rigorous scientific explorations during the past three hundred years, today we have a pretty good idea of the forces and principles that drive the world around us and the world inside us… and we engineer modern societies from that knowledge.

Spirit

For three thousand years, eastern mystics have professed that ultimate reality exists only at the source, which they call Brahman, and which other spiritual paths call God, Allah, and Yahweh or Jehovah. As the stuff of life (light, love, pure consciousness, aum, the word of God) emanates from the source to manifest everything everywhere, its vibrations become slower and slower, until finally forming the material universes. What we experience through our five senses way out here in the physical world, then, is called mayama (not) and ya (that which is real)—often translated as “illusion.” So most of the things that we humans accept as reality—space, time, gravity, and three-dimensional structure—are really illusions, according to mystics who’ve spent centuries exploring the nonphysical realities through meditation.

Merging Science and Spirit

The next phase of science will be to pierce the veil of maya to begin to explore the realm of subtle energies, chi, prana, and Holy Spirit… and the many “afterlife” worlds that are driven by those forces.

In the meantime, there are a few obstacles to that important merger. Over the years I’ve become convinced of a couple of things. First, the various realms of existence are like radio signals—all superimposed over each other, and each remaining distinct by its unique vibration. Second, we physical humans use our five senses and brains to “tune in” to the realm we’re living in—the material universe. Our minds tune out the spiritual realities simply because life on Earth would be too confusing if we could see and hear everything going on in the vast and flourishing spiritual realms that are right here, all around us.

On a bigger scale, modern science has ways of tuning out the spiritual realms in its day-to-day course of business. Through the scientific process (replication of results, peer review…), scientists remain tightly focused on the matter at hand—the physical universe—and they don’t want to be distracted. Because of that, when evidence of nonphysical existence comes to the surface during scientific exploration, it’s often filed away in closets and dusty archives and made off-limits to the public.

Case in point: the spirit voices captured by Russian-American scientist Waldemar Bogoras a century ago. This case is especially interesting to me as an ITC researcher because his recordings were the first known ITC contacts ever made.

In 1901 Bogoras took along an early recording device to visit a Chukchi tribe in Siberia. In a series of recording sessions, the shaman was in one corner of a large tent, beating a drum and turning in circles in a trance-like state, performing a spirit-conjuring ritual. Bogoras was in the opposite corner, and the phonograph was in the center of the tent recording the sounds. Voices of spirits—some American, some Russian—came across loud and clear in the recordings. The howling of a spirit wolf also was caught on the recording cylinder.

These recordings are not easily accessible to the public, requiring special fees, forms, and permissions to use for selected purposes. The complete set is owned by the American Museum of Natural History in New York City, on file in the Archives of Traditional Music at the University of Indiana in Bloomington. I’ll include here just a couple of short excerpts to give you an idea.

In the first excerpt you can hear the shaman’s voice and drum faintly in the distance before the spirit, a deceased American, begins to speak… probably positioned directly at the horn of the phonograph, judging from his loud voice. The spirit mimics and derides the shaman (turn-around turn-around-turn-around, yeah…), then becomes agitated (perhaps because he’s been “pulled in” to this ceremony) before laughing off the experience.

The second excerpt is the spirit of a wolf howling into the phonograph, again with the shaman in the background.

There are many such examples of other-worldly evidence hidden away by science (here, for example… then scroll down to the Ica Stone), and I suspect that the secrecy is enforced, at least in part (and perhaps unconsciously), to protect the scientific model—that is, the idea that anything existing beyond the material universe isn’t worthy of consideration.   (Read more here…   and   here… )

Spirits don’t exist in the scientific model, so the Bogoras recordings are filed as “Ventriloquist Effect,” suggesting that the voices are a hoax perpetrated either by the shaman or by Waldemar Bogoras himself.

For science to enter its next phase—venturing into the worlds of spirit—one of the first steps will be to open up its archives to serious researchers who can dust off the hidden files and study them from metaphysical, spiritual, and other-worldly points of view.

Meanwhile, scientific investigation is mostly involved in measuring maya.

  1. In my 45 years of metaphysics studies, I have come to understand that we are to let go and to move on, and not hold on to the past. It is my spiritual sense that tells me that these photos are more about people who need to “get the monkeys off their back, necks, shoulders,” !!!!! Please understand, that I understand the seeming joys of the peoples of this particular searching group. To be “Free at Last!!!!!!!” As the most awsome feeling an individual can experience.

The monkeys clinging to the individual are inhibiting the spiritual growth to move forward and onward. This site is certainly a “revelation,” of those monkeys that need to be release to begin a new life of real freedom!!!!!!!!

    • Hi La Vern,
Lots of spirits, as you say, are stuck near the Earth and get caught up in people’s auras (‘monkeys on the back’).
There are also spirits from finer realms who “drop by” from time to time on mission work (rescuing those ‘lost souls’) or to work on projects involving communication between our world and theirs. For ITC, spirit has to come into dense bodies to work with our electomagnetic energies and equipment. I believe that most of the spirit face photos I get are either faces of my spirit team, or else faces of spirits who are working with my spirit team to learn the technique.
Even angelic beings sometimes come close to Earth in vibration to help out, for example in a crisis situation.
So… while I acknowledge that some of the spirit faces taken over the years are of ‘ghosts’ who are stuck near the Earth after they die, I’m confident that most of the spirit faces (at least those I’ve taken in my lab, as opposed to on the road) are choreographed by my spirit group, and often involve spirits from fine, light realms of spirit who’ve ‘come down’ near the Earth to work with me.

  2. Hi Mark – Keep up the great work. You write very clearly. This is such a fascinating topic. Do you ever address communication with created spiritual beings, like angels, Melchizedeks, etc. ? //daniel

    • Thanks Daniel, much appreciated.
Not sure what you mean by ‘created’ spiritual beings.
But, yes, we’ve gotten a number of communications from ethereal beings, what I think of as “angels.”
      Mark

      • PS, Daniel, is there a website I can visit to get more information on these created beings? Sounds like an interesting subject! Thanks,
        Mark

      • To readers: Daniel sent me a personal email with a link to The Urantia Book website (http://www.urantia.org/home), which has a search engine into a vast database of esoteric and spiritual information. I’ve not read The Urantia Book in its entirety myself, though a number of very bright friends whose opinions I hold in high regard put a great deal of credence in that text. I’d recommend that site for spiritual explorations!

  3. Mark, I am really skeptical about your interpretation of these spirit faces. I would be curious if you took the original images into a program such as Photoshop and looked at the ‘properties’ in the image, and if the properties showed that the images were recorded at anything over 1/15th of a second.

The reason for my skepticism is that they very clearly look like ‘slipped expsoures’ – secondary poses of the same person, and the ‘spirit face’ is simply a visual matrixing (the ‘Virgin Mary’ phenomena) of the person referred to.

I can send you a number of images where this sort of effect has been artificially created – you would see very similar results.

Apologies for the negative response, but I’d hate to think a good theory was being supported by bad evidence.

    • Thanks for the comment, Michael, but I’m comfortable in the knowledge that they’re not just the result of motion on the part of the camera and/or the human subject… nor of the mind’s tendency to conjure patterns in random scenes. We’re referring, of course, to the spirit face photos sampled on my website…

      http://www.spiritfaces.com/02b2a-spiritfacesamples.htm

      … as linked-to in this blog entry…

      https://macyafterlife.wordpress.com/2010/01/09/science-and-spirit-measuring-maya/

Yes, the cameras I’ve used over the years (mostly Polaroid One and Polaroid OneStep) use shutter speeds ranging from 1/200s to 1/3s, depending on the lighting…

… and yes, the low- to moderate-light conditions conducive to the spirit-face photos evoke slower shutter speeds (maybe around 1/15s, though I’ve never used a light meter to try to calculate the exact shutter speed)…

… and yes, slower shutter speeds make motion blur possible…

… and yes, I’ve gotten many pictures over the years that were obviously the result of motion…

… and yes, many of the subjects have departed loved whom they would love to see in the pictures…

… and yes, I too have sometimes gazed at a spackled wall and seen faces and animal figures magically appear… probably formed by familiar memory patterns….

Still, all that said, I’m confident that what we’re seeing in many of the pictures (especially those exemplified by Figures 1 and 4-15) are genuine spirit faces.

You see, while I know those points listed above are true, I’m equally convinced that people blind themselves from realities that exist outside their belief systems. In this case, science-minded individuals blind themselves from obvious manifestations of spirit. When faced with such manifestations (whether the spirit faces mentioned above or the Bogoras recordings also referred to in this blog entry), they’ll study, analyze, mince, and separate them over and over again until their rational minds convince them that the manifestations are false.

Observed more simply and objectively, I’m sure my spirit face photos pass the test. I believe that nearly all people, over the course of a lifetime of normal human interactions here on Earth, develop a familiarity and discernment of human faces. And most reasonable people who study those samples (without the mental screen of pre-existing skepticism) will clearly see that there are two or more DIFFERENT human faces in those pictures that would be nearly impossible to duplicate through motion of either camera or subject.

To get faces that clearly distinct, showing different personalities of the faces, those reasonable people, the vast majority of them, would conclude that either, yes, those are faces of nonphysical human beings (spirits), or else they are a hoax in which two or more human faces were morphed into a single picture, probably with a program like Photoshop.

Well, I’ll state unequivocally that those photos were not hoaxed. They are Polaroid photographs of single human subjects—photographs that look exactly as shown on the website, in most cases very carefully edited in Photoshop only to remove dust spots. The actual faces were not changed in any other way. I’ll attest to that with the lives of my family and with all I hold dear.

So, that leaves only one or two conclusions for the reasonable (skeptically unfiltered) mind:

Yes, those ARE spirit faces. Yes, spirits DO exist.
