Note: For the past 30 years I’ve been preoccupied by my ITC experiences as an INIT member (1995-2000), trying to reconcile all the life-changing information we received from the other side through TVs, radios, computers, telephones… even FAX machines. I’ve been mostly out of touch with all of the good (sometimes amazing) ITC research around the world since then. The article below is little more than a snapshot of all that hard work by lots of dedicated people. Certainly not an in-depth study, which I’m not qualified to write. The main thing I want to do here is to try to put it all in perspective as best can, based on what I’ve come to understand (or believe?) about ITC and the afterlife.

It’s easy for science to dismiss the INIT experiences described in the preceding articles, simply because they haven’t happened elsewhere, and repeatability is a key step in the scientific method for determining if something is valid. It’s harder for scientists (though they keep trying) to dismiss the remarkable ITC contacts that are happening all around the world. It’s easy for much of humanity to dismiss all of our collective work, simply out of the innate human fear of death. The best ITC researchers work tirelessly to alleviate the skepticism and fear, as well as to soothe the grief we feel when we lose our loved ones.

So… here’s what I think has been going on with ITC since late last century….

The five previous articles (ITC 04 – 08) explored extraordinary spirit contacts that came through computers, phones, radios, and TVs in the 1980s and 90s, most notably to the Harsch-Fischbach couple in Luxembourg and the INIT group we established together in 1995. ITC contacts like those are made possible by an ethereally protected contact field between Earth (level 1) and our afterlife paradise (level 3), a connection that is exceedingly rare and fragile… as explained earlier.

Why level 3? Human spirits at level 3 are like those rare friends we know or read about who are habitually kind, sincere, generous, mutually supportive, and tolerant of people’s differences—willing to live and let live. That seems to be the basic nature of those level 3 spirits, based on the information they sent through a protected contact field. They no longer have the controlling, competitive, parasitic, and predatory compulsions that stir things up on Earth—but they still have enough “humanness” to be able to resonate with the thoughts and attitudes of people who are generally stable, mature, happy, and kind. Spirits at level 4 and beyond are too refined to resonate with people on Earth. That’s why a protected ITC contact field is established between level 3 and level 1 (Earth).

This article is about the many worldwide ITC contacts that occur without that kind of protected contact field. Those contacts can also be exceptional when conditions are right. And that’s what we’ll explore below.

Most of my own spirit contacts (other than the phone calls) were in that “more common ITC” category. In my experiments over the years, I noticed that most of the spirits contacting me looked and sounded smart and friendly, while some looked and sounded confused or troubled in varying degrees. That seems to be the nature of the more widesread ITC contacts—those without an ethereally protected bridge. Spirit dispositions often follow the moods and dispositions of the experimenters.

In October 1994, when I visited Maggy Fischbach and Jules Harsch in Luxembourg, our spirit friends told us through the radio:

It can only work when the vibrations of those present are in complete harmony and when their aims and intentions are pure.

Pure? They’re referring to a resonant ITC contact field, particularly one that is protected by finer beings like The Seven.

So let’s distinguish between the more widespread ITC contacts and what might be called pure ITC:

• ITC, or instrumental transcommunication, involves any spirits (or extraterrestrials) with the will and skill to use our computers, phones, radios, cameras and other modern technologies to get information into our world. Metaphorically speaking, ITC is like having a shortwave radio that receives information from anyone tuned to the same frequency (as shown in the above diagram, bottom left).
• Pure ITC is like having a secure multimedia connection or Zoom chat with refined friends (as shown in the above diagram, top left). Under the right, rare conditions, spirits at level 3 can deliver extraordinary information to our world through a protected contact field, as shown in the previous articles.

Now we explore the more widespread forms of ITC, which can also provide remarkable contacts under the right conditions. We’ll try to get a clearer idea of what those conditions are, as we glimpse the diverse spirits who make contact with specially suited experimenters on Earth.

Lots of people experiment with ITC and explore other-worldly phenomena. Here are a few good examples:

• The Scole group (Britain). Robin and Sandra Foy, working with Alan and Diana Bennett, experienced materializations, light phenomena, faces of ETs and spirits in photographs and video, symbols and diagrams planted on unexposed rolls of 35mm film, direct voices speaking in the room, and much more… often in the presence of visiting scientists, reporters, and other fascinated, discerning people. The Scole Group’s exceptional contacts ended around the year 2000 (same as our INIT group’s contacts in the previous articles).
• Simone Santos (Brazil, living in Seattle USA since 2006) has received many recognizable faces of her clients’ deceased loved ones (for example, Fernanda 1, Fernanda 2, Rayme, and Sidney). Simone uses a variety of video and audio equipment, including TVs (both new LED models and old vacuum tube models), camcorders (some with night vision and infrared capabilities), advanced audio recording equipment, and “ghost boxes.”
• Fiorella Lattaruli (Brazil) got fascinating, fairy-like photos using a reflective silver paper technique.
• Sonia Rinaldi (Brazil) was a key member of our short-lived INIT group, and, to the best of my knowledge, she’s the only member to continue ITC experiments to the present day… making great strides. Sonia has received many stunning, life-like spirit faces and spirit voices easily recognizable by their surviving friends and loved ones. She’s tried various techniques… most recently “transfigurations” in which faces and partial bodies of spirits appear in vapors in a dark room and are caught on a cellphone camera.
• ATransC is an international network of afterlife researchers, primarily ITC and EVP experimenters, facilitated by Tom and Lisa Butler (USA). It grew out of Sarah Estep’s AAEVP association.
• Varanormal is an online community focused on understanding and creating technical methods to communicate with spirit. Founded by Keith J. Clark, a long-standing ITC researcher, Varanormal is the third effort of that community of volunteers and friends. The first was ITC Bridge in 2007, followed by iDigitalMedium in 2015, culminating with Varanormal in 2018. Keith’s personal specialties include live streaming, radio experiments, and computer-based experiments. In 2007 he discovered spirit faces in sound.
• My own spirit face photos also provide some interesting examples of basic ITC. (The pure ITC contacts that I received over the years were my spirit phone calls, which came through a protected contact field. The bulk of my experiments, including my spirit photographs, were the more common variety, without the protection of that contact field.)

So, among the most exceptional of the widespread ITC contacts were received by the Brits and the Brazilians* (such as the British Scole Group, and Brazilians Sonia, Simone, and Fiorella).

*Why Brazil and Britain? My guess? Those two countries have a rich heritage of Spiritism and Spiritualism, respectively—two traditions that acknowledge and embrace the presence of positive spirits in human lives. When a noble society embraces spirits and gods, then spirits and gods are always close by to help and support the people. That was true for great civilizations in our distant past (Babylon to Rome). It was true for Native American communities in our recent history (before the coming of Christian missionaries from Europe). And it’s still true for societies today that are steeped in spiritual traditions—for example, India with its many Hindu gods…
… and most notably, perhaps, societies that embrace Spiritism, especially Brazil and the Philippines, where spiritual healing, mediumship, and other positive spirit influences work wonders for those who resonate and believe.
Spiritualism in Britain flourished in Victorian times, until unhinging motives of fraudsters, skeptics, psychical researchers, and rationalists forced it out of the mainstream… spreading public fears and doubts that sent positive spirits scurrying. Even so, there are still several hundred Spiritualist churches in Britain, where spirits of good intent continue to support the small congregations. To me, the results of the Scole Group seem like an extraordinary, high-tech outgrowth of traditional Spiritualism and the phenomenal things that happened during seances—table-tapping, materialization of spirits, things moving by themselves, people and pianos levitating, strange lights and sounds in the room….

As a general rule, positive attitudes (gratitude, generosity, honesty, desire to help others…) bring spirits with similar dispositions close to us (whether we’re aware of them or not). The more a society can resonate with those fine attitudes, the easier it is for positive spirits to offer friendship, support, and guidance to the people…

So spiritually oriented countries like Brazil, with its rich Spiritism and spiritual healing centers, are probably good places to find meaningful ITC research (with or without a stable, pure contact field), since there are plenty of good, positive spirits who often visit the “earthplane” (level1) in order to work with good, positive people in those countries for the betterment of humanity.

At least, that’s the theory. Let’s see how it plays out in practice.

The rest of this article is devoted mostly to the work of my former colleague Sonia Rinaldi in Brazil, especially her spirit face photos. We’ll also glimpse a few spirit face photos that I captured on Polaroid film here in the States from 1999 to around 2010. While my results are interesting, Sonia’s are exceptional. So, our different techniques and similar results provide a small cross-section of the common forms of ITC research that are underway today.

Sonia Rinaldi’s ITC Work

As I mentioned, I sort of lost touch with all of the dedicated ITC research that’s been going on around the world since the year 2000…

… until US reader Don Marsh recently showed me three remarkable images that he received from Sonia Rinaldi—pictures of Don’s departed relatives and pets that Sonia had collected from her ITC experiments in Brazil. Here are those three spirit pictures (compared to lifetime photos):

Don’s family consists of himself, his wife, their daughter, and two female Westie dog siblings.

Ironically—or fittingly, perhaps—the pups are named after “spirits.” 🙂 Their first two Westie sisters were Bailey and Bacardi. When they died around age 10, the Marsh family adopted two more Westie sisters—Brandi and MacKenzie. Today the four Westie girls enjoy sleepovers in their small kennel (which apparently “gets a little crowded”)… as Don explained to me:

“I brought my daughter to an all-day conference by the gifted medium Susanne Wilson, who told the audience at one point that two little white, energetic spirit dogs wanted her attention, and they were referring to themselves as ‘children’ of the family. I thought right away of our first Westies, Bailey and Bacardi. I told Susanne that my wife and I used to refer to the two pups as ‘our children.’ My daughter piped up, ‘Yes, but I was their only two-legged child,’ which got a laugh from the audience.

“Later on, I attended a three-day conference by Susanne Wilson, this time accompanied by my wife, and our little Bailey came through again. Bailey let Susanne know that she has her own house in the spirit world now, but says it’s ‘nicer to sleep with the other three, even if it gets a little crowded sometimes.’ Susanne the medium told the audience she had no idea what the sleeping arrangements referred to, and when I reminded her of her encounter with Bailey and Bacardi at the previous conference, she seemed to recall it only vaguely. So I explained to Susanne and the audience that the two pups we have now, Brandi and MacKenzie, sleep every night in their small kennel, the same kennel that Bailey and Bacardi had used before they died. Susanne seemed grateful for the explanation and confirmation, then moved on to the next reading.

“But my wife and I were thrilled.”

Apparently, the spirits of Bailey and Bacardi often come close to Don’s family to spend the night with Brandi and MacKenzie in their two-dog kennel. It’s fun to imagine what dream adventures the four gal-pals might have, maybe romping together through beautiful parks among happy people and animals….

In countries like America that are largely agnostic, lots of people are suspicious of psychics and mediums—even gifted mediums like Susanne Wilson—so Don contacted ITC researcher Sonia Rinaldi in Brazil and sent her the picture of his 84-year-old mother (above) in hopes of getting a more evidential message from her. That’s when Sonia received the spirit pictures of Don’s mom, dad, and little Bailey. Don says:

“You can imagine how moved I was to see that picture of Bailey. She was such a sweet dog, and to know that she’s still here, though not in a physical sense, is very comforting.”

Sonia has photographed many, many spirit faces like the ones she received for Don Marsh, and she publishes them:

• including the many pictures of people like Rodney and Elio (below), easily identifiable by their families and friends.

Sonia says that the spirit group working with her on the other side is managed by the famous inventor Nikola Tesla, and her main communicator is Konstantin Raudive, a pioneer in spirit voices on audiotape, who had told our INIT group that it’s been his calling to continue his ITC work since his death in 1974. Her spirit group, she says, also gets “nonhuman support,” presumably from those whom we call “extraterrestrials” and probably also from finer beings like The Seven, who protected our INIT contact field.

In the 1990s, Konstantin Raudive had called various INIT members on the phone through INIT’s protected contact field, including both Sonia and me, so it’s wonderful to learn that he still supports Sonia in her ITC experiments… as Sonia learned at a conference here in the States in 2018….

Konstantin Raudive Renews His Friendship with Sonia During a Seance

In September 2018, Sonia attended a materialization séance by well-known physical medium David Thompson (Britain) during an AREI conference in Scottsdale USA, where Sonia was also a speaker. In typical séance fashion, David’s arms and legs were zip-tied to a chair, he was blindfolded, then the room was made completely dark. Around 30 people were attending.

One of David’s spirit guides, a child, said a male spirit was present, wanting to address someone in the room named “Shone…”

Sonia thought, Certainly not me!… (She and David Thompson had never heard of each other before this conference.)

Suddenly a loud, familiar voice began to speak about two feet (60 cm) above Sonia’s head:

Sonia Rinaldi, my name is Konstantin Raudive…

Sonia nearly fell out of her chair. She hadn’t heard Konstantin’s familiar voice since she and I and other INIT members were getting phone calls from him in the 1990s. It was like reconnecting with a long-lost friend.

Sonia said later, “This was one of the most incredible gifts I could ever have received. It’ll be an important part of my life forever.”

Here’s the recording of that complete dialog during the séance:

KONSTANTIN: Sonia Rinaldi, my name is Konstantin Raudive. SONIA: Oh, Mr Raudive! Thank you for your presence. Thank you! KONSTANTIN: I want you to know that I am working with you most of the time. SONIA: Oh, thank you. (pause) I’m sorry, sometimes I do not quite understand, but Sheri is helping me (with translations). KONSTANTIN: I want you to know that there is a problem with the communication, do you understand? SONIA: Yes, is there anything I can do? KONSTANTIN: Yes. SONIA: Of course! Please say… KONSTANTIN: You need to create a symmetric current between two capacitors. SONIA: Yes, uh… if you can help me achieve that, I will try anyway…. KONSTANTIN: I will try… I will bring news through your channels of communication. They will help you… and we will accomplish many things together. SONIA: Oh, okay, thank you… I will do anything I can. KONSTANTIN: Yes, I know, and that is why I come to do this, to work with you. SONIA: I thank you so much… KONSTANTIN: I thank you. SONIA: You know that I call you ‘Mr German,’ right? KONSTANTIN: You can call me whatever you wish. (laughter) Have you seen my face yet?… I will appear on your communication… SONIA: Oh-h-h! (she laughs) KONSTANTIN: You will see me on your records, yes? SONIA: Can I ask you a question? KONSTANTIN: Yes. SONIA: Mr Raudive, I think we should do more than we are doing, and I don’t know how. I think that what you people on the other side are doing is so important, and we have to do more for you, but we don’t know if you can tell us, or help us to help you… KONSTANTIN: I know and I will do. I will inspire with the correct schematic for the capacitors for the communication. SONIA: Yes, anything… since I know that to do, I will… KONSTANTIN: I will help you. SONIA: I thank you so much! KONSTANTIN: It is important that you know I will help you. SONIA: Can I make another question? KONSTANTIN: Yes. SONIA: Long ago, apparently you made some phone calls to Earth, including to me, and this didn’t happen anymore. Why is it? If it was possible for you to make a phone call—let’s say 10 years ago—why then didn’t you come again? Why didn’t this happen again? KONSTANTIN: Because the vibration of the fabric of the physical world prevents this from happening. SONIA: Oh, is there anything we can… well, I don’t know if this is important for you but… KONSTANTIN: My dear, you are doing more than enough. That I can tell you. SONIA: I thank you so much. KONSTANTIN: We will do more work together. You in your world and I in mine.

Three important points can be taken from that historic dialog:

• Dedicated folks like Sonia and Konstantin are working tirelessly, doing everything they can—on their respective sides of the veil—to make ITC a reality in our world.
• When Konstantin emphasizes, “It is important that you know I will help you,” I believe he’s implying there are also negative spirit imposters who can disrupt ITC contacts, so experimenters should establish a positive mental rapport with their positive spirit friends to avoid those disruptions from negative spirits. And that gets to the crux of an ITC contact field—sustaining an attitude of friendship, sincerity, trust, and gratitude with our positive spirit friends. Positive attitudes keep the field peaceful and stable so that ITC can flourish.
• When Konstantin says that, since INIT, “The vibration of the fabric of the physical world prevents (pure ITC) from happening,” I would interpret that to mean that the positive, resonant mental vibrations of people on Earth (an unwavering sense of friendship, trust, sincerity, one-mindedness, desire to serve and support each other….) is too challenging for human nature to sustain for an extended period of time. I suspect that our spirit friends see the collective consciousness of humans as a sort of “vibrational fabric” of our world.

My Spirit Face Photos

In 1999, as INIT’s contact field seemed to be destabilizing, I bought a device called a luminator (the black tower standing to the left in the picture) that allowed spirits to show themselves when I took pictures of people with a Polaroid camera. When the photos developed, a spirit would often be superimposed over the person’s face.

I would just turn on the luminator and start taking pictures in a room with an old-fashioned (analog) Polaroid camera under normal incandescent lighting. (Sunlight and halogen lights seemed to inhibit the spirit-face anomalies, but fluorescent lighting seemed to work okay. Also, when Polaroid replaced its analog with digital photos, spirit face photos no longer appeared.) Here are a few notable examples of my spirit-face photos from 1999 until around 2010:

Those are among the most exceptional pictures I received during a decade of experimenting with the luminator. By far most photos had no spirit faces, but most of them had anomalies of some kind—blurring, light streaks… that sort of thing.

The most personal pictures I got could fit into a sort of afterlife family photo album—several pictures of my dad (Blair Macy) showing up with me, Regina’s dad (John Hoys) showing up with her… and then showing up again with his grandson, our son Aaron, on several occasions, as shown below.

My spirit-face experiments got some attention for a while, and I appeared on a few TV shows:

So, hopefully, that provides a taste of the ITC research that’s going on around the world today, here in the new millennium.

There are lots of conclusions and speculations that could be drawn from all this, but the only thing I know for certain is:

• When we experience these spirit encounters in our world—whether as readers or as ITC researchers or as survivors of lost loved ones or simply as human beings—their effect on us is always optimized if we acknowledge our perfect inner light (the source) and make efforts, day by day, to foster a conscious connection to that light.
• Then we generally resonate with fine, light spirits, and they become a vital part of our life.
• Any encounters we have with dark, confused, or troubled spirits (or people) are fleeting and of little consequence. For them we “live and let live”… and maybe help and support them (and ourself) by simply, silently seeing the inner light shining perfectly within them.

I’m planning the next article (which will probably be the last of the ITC series) to address the questions:

• Why did that protected contact field open up for INIT in the 1990s?
• Is another secure ITC bridge like that possible in the coming years?
• What sort of projects here on Earth might get enough attention from the big decision-makers in the spirit world (such as The Seven finer beings) to support a pure contact field that could do so much good for our world in these troubled times?
• In the meantime, what significance do these ITC contacts have for the modern world?
